Application and process

How to enter in 3 steps

1. READ THE RULES and GENERAL CONDITIONS

Entries are accepted subject to acceptance of The Sydney Cabaret Competition Rules and General Conditions. You will be asked to verify that you’ve read and understood the rules before you submit your application.

2. ENTER ONLINE

Complete the online application form - ensuring you fill out all details correctly. Forms cannot be processed unless fully completed.

Submitting your application is Round One of the competition, so please ensure you’ve included as much background information, your performance bio, headshot and YouTube links (public or private) will be also be used to select our contestants.

To enter The Sydney Cabaret Competition, please complete and submit one application only.

Read the entry form carefully as each entrant must email their performance bio and headshot/photo to scc@archeryproductions.com at the time of submission.

3. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY?

After submitting your application, we will send you a receipt of acknowledgment within 10 days of receiving your application, as well as further information regarding the Competition and how it is run. Due to limited spaces in the heats, not all entrants will be invited to compete in the heats (round two).

WHAT YOU NEED TO PREPARE

Contestants should prepare 2 songs of a contrasting nature with interlinking dialogue (patter), which demonstrates that they can verbally communicate with an audience.

“2 songs” is used only as a guide for contestants, who may present any selection of material of their own choosing as long as the Competition time-limit is adhered to. Your patter (interlinking dialogue) can come at any time throughout the set.  8 minutes is the maximum time allowed per performer!

A short ringing sound will be heard at 8 minutes to let judges know that contestants are now over the allotted time limit. A continuous ringing sound will be made once a contestant reaches 8 minutes and 30 seconds and will continue until the contestant’s set is completed.

The judges are looking for a set which conveys the idea or concept of what your full length cabaret show might be about, should you be chosen to develop a show for future productions.

Criteria upon which they may also base their decision might include, presentation, vocal ability and musicality, quality and originality of the idea or theme of your set, ability to engage and entertain the audience, as well as their general enjoyment of each set!

THE COMPETITION: ROUND ONE (Application)

The producer (Archery Productions) will review all entries received and based on the merit of the application and supporting information (performance CV, bio, links to relevant videos), will determine a short list of contestants who will be allocated into 1 of the 3 heats (Round Two). Unfortunately not all entrants will be invited to participate in round two as we have limited spaces.

ROUND TWO - THE HEATS

Contestants will be allocated to 1 of 3 heats, where they will perform their 8 minute cabaret to a live audience and panel of judges.

3 winners will be awarded at the end of each heat (2 selected by the judges, and 1 voted for by the attending audience on the night based on number of votes received).

To maximise your chances of making the final, contestants are encouraged to bring their friends, family, fans and followers along to help with the ‘Audience Choice’ winner.

ROUND THREE - The Final

The 3 winners of each round will progress to the final, where the judges will select 1 overall winner and a runner up, and the audience will again vote for ‘Audience Choice’ winner.

The grand final will take place on Wednesday 10 July at the Seymour Centre, Chippendale - a featured event at the Sydney Cabaret Festival.
